CoolSculpting is a breakthrough treatment for stubborn areas of body fat. According to the U.S. Library of Medicine, the procedure is both safe and effective.
The best way to prepare for CoolSculpting is to get as close to your goal weight as possible. The purpose of this treatment is not to resolve obesity but rather to treat fatty deposits that seem resistant to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting before and after pictures prove just how well it works for most people.

CoolSculpting is not ideal for everyone.
Active people who live healthy lifestyles respond best to CoolSculpting. The treatment is a non-surgical, fat-reduction technique with results that are comparable to liposuction, as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery explains. It is only able to contour the body, killing approximately 20 percent of fat cells in a targeted area.
CoolSculpting can create a near-flat stomach and smooth small bulges around the hips and thighs. However, unlike gastric lap bands or gastric bypass surgery, CoolSculpting will not cause major weight loss.
How can you prepare in the days before your appointment?
The CoolSculpting machine works similarly to a vacuum. It sucks the fat into a device where it can freeze trapped cells. The applicator contains a very strong suction, and for this reason, it may be wise to avoid anti-inflammatories during the week before your procedure. Aspirin or Advil, for example, may raise the risk of excessive bruising.
Bruising is normal after CoolSculpting. All patients experience some bruising, but it usually clears within a few days.
On the morning of your procedure, dress for comfort. Choose loose fitting clothes so that your practitioner can easily access the target areas.
There is no downtime after most CoolSculpting sessions, which is why the treatment is also called the “lunch-hour procedure.” Many patients return to work immediately afterward, resuming normal activities.
What must you do on the day of the procedure?
Each CoolSculpting session takes approximately one hour. If you are treating several areas, then you may need to set aside several hours for the treatment.
You may want to bring some entertainment with you. Many patients read; others binge-watch their favorite TV series or catch up on emails.
If you cannot treat all of the target areas during one session, then you should try to book your sessions as close together as possible. Leaving time gaps between sessions will hinder your ability to see all of your results together.
What should you expect after your treatment?
No preparations are required for recovery because in most cases, there is no downtime. The procedure is non-invasive. The area may feel tender to the touch, and numbness from the extreme cold may take a few days – possibly weeks – to go away. This odd sensation is completely normal, but it will not require any bandage changes, medicines or other post-surgery necessities.
Your results will take time to notice. You may see evidence of disappearing fat within the first three weeks, but it could take several months to see the complete result.
