Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting in Charlotte: Which Is Right for You?

Sarah Yousuff

December might not sound like bikini season, but millions of women and men use the winter months to get their bodies ready for the beach. Although eating a balanced diet and exercising are the two most effective ways to lose weight, some pockets of fat seem immune to even the strictest health routine.

This is where CoolSculpting can help. This is a non-invasive alternative to liposuction that contours the body by freezing fat cells. The process does not affect the skin or muscles, and there have been no reports of serious side effects.

Sound too good to be true? You can learn more about this procedure by calling Evolve Medical Associates.

Our team will answer your questions about CoolSculpting and evaluate your health and cosmetic goals to determine if you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting in Charlotte. Dial 704-935-5745 to schedule a consultation.

Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting: Which Is Right for You?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses suction to remove fat from specific areas of the body. CoolSculpting, however, is non-invasive, which means there is a lower risk of infections and other serious complications.

Tumescent liposuction is the most common approach to this surgery. It involves a surgeon making incisions in the skin and using a tube, called a canulla, to suck out fat and fluids.

CoolSculpting, however, does not require incisions, which means that you will not have to worry about scarring or being sidelined from work while you recover. During the procedure, a clinician will place a vacuum applicator directly onto target areas. The applicator will expose fat cells in those areas to cold temperatures for about one hour. According to Forbes, this vacuum may pull blood flow and accompanying inflammatory cells into the layers of fat, which helps eliminate fat cells.

Liposuction comes with several potential side effects including pain, bruising, numbness and swelling. The Mayo Clinic warns that liposuction is considered a major surgical procedure, and there have been reports of significant bleeding, infections, internal punctures, and even kidney and heart complications. The risk of complications increases if your surgeon targets a large part of your body.

The side effects of CoolSculpting are minor in comparison: While you may experience a pulling, tugging or pinching sensation during your treatment, these usually subside as the cold numbs the area. After your treatment, you should expect temporary redness, swelling or tenderness in the area, but these effects are temporary and generally resolve within a few hours or days.

CoolSculpting also tends to be less expensive than liposuction. Immediately after a CoolSculpting session, patients can usually return to their normal activities. You do not have to worry about losing income while you recover.
