How Does CoolSculpting in Charlotte Work? 3 FAQs Answered

Sarah Yousuff

What is cryolipolysis? Don’t be put off by the complicated name; the science behind it is actually pretty simple.

When Harvard scientists noticed that children who ate popsicles developed dimples in their cheeks, they did some research to find out why. They realized that the ice was freezing pockets of fat cells in the children’s cheeks.

This discovery led them to hypothesize that freezing targeted pockets of fat could kill fat cells without damaging skin, muscles and other tissues. After years of research and innovation, CoolSculpting was introduced.

CoolSculpting is one of the world’s first non-invasive fat reduction procedures. It is highly effective for most patients, affordable and usually does not require any downtime for recovery.

Read on to learn the answers to three common questions about CoolSculpting:

  1. How Does CoolSculpting Work?

As its name implies, CoolSculpting works by using an applicator to cool targeted areas of fat. Unlike traditional liposuction, CoolSculpting can target specific fat pockets for more controlled body contouring.

After cooling the fatty tissue, the cells gradually die. Your body will naturally expel them over the next few months.

  1. Are There Any Side Effects?

CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for safety and effectiveness. Unlike invasive procedures, CoolSculpting does not require any needles or incisions, which significantly reduces the risk of complications.

A 2014 study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal examined CoolSculpting reviews and found that only minor and temporary side effects were reported. The most common side effects are temporary redness in the treatment area and localized bruising. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, these usually clear up within a few hours.

  1. Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is safe and highly effective for most patients. However, it is important that patients have realistic expectations of what the procedure can and cannot accomplish.

If you would like to remove a significant amount of fat, then traditional liposuction may be a better option. However, liposuction is an invasive procedure that usually leaves scars, and the risk of complications is higher for liposuction patients than for CoolSculpting patients.

The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting is to speak with a practitioner. This procedure is probably a good fit if you wish to target pockets of fat under your chin, along the thigh, abdomen or flank, or under the buttocks.

You should not undergo CoolSculpting if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
